Objective:                                          < Prev      Next >
To produce a security system which would make it impossible for a theif to steal a vehicle. Is it possible? In short, NO. How come? In short, because there is always someone out there in this world that is brighter than you. But your typical street punk would be left scratching their head for hours, if not days with this top-notch piece of security protecting your vehicle.

Is it better than my current system, which has a shelf price of around $250? You betcha. Why is it better? This system relies on an keypad with a 4-digit code that you decide on, rather than an RF transmitter to enable and disable the system. This transmitter is usually on the same ring as the key to the vehicle, so if someone steals your keys, then they've got your car in an instant. Not a very smart solution is it?

With a keypad-based system, much like your ATM card -- no one knows the access code besides you. Well we at least hope that is the case. Can't they just cut the wires and do a quick hotwire job to bypass the system? NO. This system is a 2-part arrangement, whereas the keypad, a couple of LEDS and a piezo buzzer are housed in one case while the "brains" of the system is concealed anywhere within the vehicle that you can think of. Under the carpet, under the roof lining -- you name it. the vehicle cannot be stolen unless the thief manages to locate the secondary unit.

What's inside the second box? An micro-controller of course. What's an micro-controller? A mico or MCU (micro-controller-unit) -- is a complete miniature computer inside a single chip. Or, as often referred to as an IC (Integrated-circuit) How does it work? One first must need to know that electricity if the movement of electrons, while electronics is the control of them. Modern-day electronic equipment uses sometimes millions upon millions of silicon transistors to do this.
